What's the Big Deal?
What’s the big deal about Light Peak? There are two big main advantages to this new technology.
Speed: As technology progresses we need faster and faster communication between devices. Files for audio, video, keep getting larger and larger. Home video, movies, songs, we have more and more to choose from and high definition makes video files even larger. Being able to transfer those files between devices in less time makes for a more pleasing user experience. Imaging being able to move a hi-def movie from your PC to your phone in 30 seconds. The complete move… in 30 seconds.
Standardization: As it stands right now, to connect your phone, video camera, digital camera, iPod or MP3 player to your computer, you may need USB or FireWire ports on your computer and several different USB cables or FireWire cables to handle the various ports these devices may have. Standardizing on 1 small connector would reduce the pile of cables you have to keep on hand and make life much easier.
Light Peak also has the speed to replace Ethernet network cables as well.
